About Christian
Christian August is a professional saxophonist, arranger, and music educator whose work connects performance, creativity, and practical instruction. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Elmhurst University, where he studied with Doug Beach, Mark Colby, Tom Garling, and other respected Chicago-area musicians. His training includes jazz improvisation, classical saxophone technique, music theory, composition, and arranging.
Over more than six years of teaching, Christian has led more than 2,500 private and group lessons through independent studios, Music & Arts, Dundee Middle School, Dundee-Crown High School, Glenbard North High School, and Beloit Memorial High School. He works with students at different stages of their musical development, helping them build technique, confidence, musical understanding, and a clearer sense of direction.
Christian remains active as a performer and arranger throughout the Chicago area. His experience includes performing and writing for the Blueshift Big Band, along with appearances and collaborations across jazz, contemporary, and educational settings. That real-world experience shapes his teaching: students learn not only how music works, but how to apply it creatively and confidently.
